Special Session: Software for Soft Computing

Special Session: Software for Soft Computing

Organizers: Jose Manuel Soto-Hidalgo and Jesús Alcalá-Fdez (CFP)

This session has been submitted at the FUZZ-IEEE 2027 conference which will be held in Sydney (Australia) at July 10-13th, 2027.

FUZZIEEE 2027

Soft Computing comprises a broad family of computational paradigms, including Fuzzy Systems, Evolutionary Computation, Neural and Neuro-Fuzzy Systems, Probabilistic Reasoning, Rough and Granular Computing, and related hybrid approaches. These techniques are particularly well suited to complex real-world problems involving uncertainty, imprecision, incomplete information, dynamic environments, and multiple competing objectives.

The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning has further increased the relevance of Soft Computing. Current intelligent systems are expected not only to achieve high predictive performance, but also to provide understandable decisions, quantify uncertainty, adapt to changing environments, improve robustness and reliability, and facilitate interaction with human users. In this context, Fuzzy Systems and other Soft Computing approaches provide valuable mechanisms for the development of explainable, trustworthy, adaptive, and human-centered AI.

Software plays a key role in translating these methodological advances into reproducible research and practical applications. In recent years, the ecosystem of open-source tools for Soft Computing has grown considerably, including libraries and frameworks for fuzzy modeling, evolutionary optimization, machine learning, explainable AI, data analysis, and hybrid intelligent systems. At the same time, new challenges have emerged related to interoperability, reproducibility, scalability, validation, usability, software quality, and integration with modern AI and data science environments.

This Special Session on Software for Soft Computing aims to provide a forum for researchers, developers, practitioners, and users to present and discuss new software tools, frameworks, libraries, and computational environments supporting the design, evaluation, deployment, and application of Soft Computing methods, with particular emphasis on open, reusable, and reproducible software.
